The shipyard industry is becoming more regulated. Bureau of Labor Statistics data indicates the industry's injury and illness rate for 2001 was more than 3 times greater than the rate for all private industry. OSHA is currently developing shipyard industry guidelines aimed at reducing ergonomic-related injuries among workers, and its comprehensive ergonomics plan will include tough enforcement measures.
